Data Engineer Subject Matter Expert
Responsibilities
- Technical authority and subject matter expert in data engineering, possessing extensive experience and deep technical knowledge in advanced data architecture, data integration, data warehousing, and data management
- Provide strategic leadership in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of complex, enterprise-wide data solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, industry best practices, and emerging technologies
- Provide expert guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to other Data Engineers and data professionals, fostering a culture of data literacy, innovation, and collaboration across the organization
- Lead the development and maintenance of the enterprise data architecture, including advanced data models, data flow diagrams, and data dictionaries, ensuring data integrity, availability, and security at scale
- Design, develop, and implement highly sophisticated data pipelines and ETL processes, using a wide range of cutting-edge tools and technologies to ingest, transform, and load data from diverse and complex sources
- Build and maintain highly scalable data platforms and infrastructure, including on-premises, cloud-based, and hybrid solutions, optimizing data processing performance and ensuring data quality and consistency through advanced techniques
- Implement resilient, enterprise-level data governance and security measures to protect sensitive information, ensuring strict compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards
- Collaborate with Architects, Engineers, executive leadership, and business stakeholders to understand complex and strategic data requirements and translate them into innovative and efficient technical solutions
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and data management, continuously updating their knowledge and skills to drive innovation and contribute to the advancement of the organization’s strategic data capabilities
- Frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations

- Lead the development and delivery of advanced data engineering training programs, ensuring that all relevant teams are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage and use data assets
- BA/BS in field necessary to assume Data Engineer IV duties or a minimum of 12 years years of relevant Data Engineering experience
- High School and 4 years of additional experience or Associate's Degree and 2 years of additional experience may be exchanged in lieu of a required Bachelor's degree
- A candidate holding a relevant Master’s degree may be granted 2 years’ experience credit for that extra education
- A candidate holding a relevant PhD degree may be granted 4 years’ experience credit for that extra education
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and other data manipulation languages, including experience with performance tuning and optimization
- Extensive experience with data integration and ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, Apache NiFi) and techniques, including real-time data streaming and change data capture
- Deep knowledge of data warehousing and Data Lake technologies (e.g., Snowflake, AWS Redshift, Azure Data Lake, Databricks), including experience with designing, building, and maintaining enterprise-scale data platforms
- Extensive experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their data services, including data storage, processing, analytics, and machine learning services
- Experience with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and their application in processing and analyzing large data sets
- Demonstrated expertise in data governance and data quality tools and processes, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and security
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and techniques, enabling effective communication of data insights to stakeholders
- Strong understanding of data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for data engineering practices
- Experience working in an agile-informed development environment, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver data solutions iteratively
- At least one relevant cloud data engineering certification (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics–Specialty, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Azure Data Engineer–Associate)
