Database Manager
Responsibilities
- The Database Manager is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing relational and spatial databases to support ecological research, telemetry studies, and survey operations within the NEFSC PSD
- This position ensures data integrity, accessibility, and compliance with NOAA data standards
- Design and manage Oracle-based relational and spatial databases for marine research data
- Develop and maintain data validation and workflow automation procedures
- Support integration of databases with analytical tools and web-based applications (e.g., RShiny)
- Provide technical documentation and support to users; ensure metadata and security protocols are maintained
Skills
- Master's degree or higher in computer science, ecology, or related field
- More than 5 years of applicable experience
- Strong proficiency with Oracle databases, SQL, and spatial data tools (e.g., ArcGIS)
- Proficient in R and R shiny
- Familiarity with managing telemetry, survey, and biological sample data
- Proficiency in data quality control, backup, and user support procedures
- Ability to collaborate with scientists and data analysts on cross-functional projects
