Business Intelligence Analyst
Job Summary:
Works as a business intelligence / data analyst with strong user-facing communication skills, leveraging prior healthcare experience to develop and deliver semantic model solutions under occasional guidance. Collaborates with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into actionable insights, and deliver clear, concise data assets and data marts. Key responsibilities include analyzing data sources, designing, and developing the semantic layer to connect business language with technical data, ensuring data consistency, and documenting metadata, lineage, and business definitions. The role also requires collaboration with technical teams, data governance, and business stakeholders to ensure the semantic model meets business needs for self-service analytics. Implements small projects or components of large projects. Ability to solve medium to complex problems.
Responsibilities:
- Develops or modifies data models, ETL processes, and BI tool solutions.
- Ensures appropriate documentation for all development and modification.
- Ensures integrity and security of institutional data.
Technical Capabilities:
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement (Proficient): Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable information. Effectively communicates complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical users. Gathers requirements, presents findings, and provides support to end users.
- Healthcare Data & Compliance (Proficient): Demonstrates strong understanding of healthcare data standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA). Applies healthcare domain knowledge to ensure data solutions meet regulatory requirements.
- SQL Writing (Proficient): Writes complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis. Optimizes queries for performance and accuracy.
- Data Warehousing Concepts (Proficient): Demonstrates a strong understanding of data warehousing concepts such as ODS, enterprise data warehouse, data marts, and semantic modeling. Applies best practices in data organization and integration. Demonstrates an understanding of design concepts, data organization, capabilities and limitations. Worked with corporate, as well as local, data warehouse models. Has used at least one of the state-of-the-art data warehouse packages available in practical application of moderate difficulty.
- Dimensional and Semantic Modeling (Intermediate): Demonstrates a strong understanding of modeling concepts like Start and snowflake models. Builds and optimizes the semantic layer for intuitive, self-service data access and analysis by end-users.
- Data Marts (Intermediate): Has successfully applied the skill in situations of medium complexity. Occasionally needs assistance from internal technical support in its application, operation or practice. May have successfully completed in-depth training in core components of the skill.
- Cloud Technologies (Novice): Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure Databricks for data analysis and processing.
- Python for Data Analysis (Novice): Uses basic Python coding skills for data analysis, data manipulation, and automation tasks.
